For a combination of breathability, flexibility, comfort, good grip and dexterity, select knit or woven gloves – the best for general use to provide protection against various injuries, depending on the construction of the glove. Basic woven styles and jersey glove fabrics are available in a choice of weights. String knit gloves, manufactured on knitting machines, offer seamless construction. Fibers such as 100% cotton provide absorbency and warmth, while cotton/poly blends are a bit more comfortable and durable and resist shrinkage when laundered. Nylon gloves are low-linting, with exceptional fit, dexterity, tactile sensitivity, and minimal shrinkage. A variety of coatings such as natural rubber, nitrile, foam-nitrile and polyurethane can be applied to base liners to enhance resistance to abrasion, snags, cuts and punctures. The coatings also extend wear and improve grip. Refer to the InfoDirect article on measuring glove size for more information.
